If you have never used something like a blog, a wiki or Facebook, you could never completely understand its possibilities just by reading about it and observing it from aside.

I might add here that, even if you have used a blog, a wiki, facebook, a yahoo or google group, but haven't tried out ning.com to participate in one of the networks that exist there or made your own network, you won't be able to fully understand what you are missing.

Ning, which is open source and free, combines blogs, discussion groups, facebook, photo and video sharing, and some other things in one easy and simple interface. Well, it's hard to describe and I really do recommend that you, Teemu and your readers try it out.

I came to it two months ago through a ning network looking at the theory behind currency systems

http://openmoney.ning.com/

then I joined another network that discusses P2P

http://p2pfoundation.ning.com/

and finally I made my own. It deals with natural medicine and freedom of choice in health

http://healthfreedomnet.ning.com/

It really is something to try out, lest you miss the "bleeding edge" ;-))

Good points, also those mentioned by Esko Kilpi.
Getting the use and fun of all possibilities which are now available for free needs some experience of them. And the experience comes with different ways. Just telling and listening or reading about them gives a hint about what we could do.

Many blogs and news include such hints. They come into reality only after testing and practising the software. Perhaps the best hints tell about shortcuts to find the handy ways to use that software.
