Very few objects are valuable for their shape alone (which is the only aspect that RepRap copies). Usually more important than shape are structural strengths, flexibility/stiffness, hardness/resilience, longevity for very particular physical situations of wear and tear, etc. The difference between shape copiers (RepRap is not the only one) and a true Star Trek "Replicator" is vast.

"Even more interesting will be the creativity of individuals who now with abundant access to virtual models of original physical designs, will create mashups unleashing iterations of cultural artefacts and cultural advancement never seen before by mankind."

There is no evidence that modern technology has increased creativity. Productivity? Yes.

My first thought about Pirate Bay linking to the RepRap-site was: "Which audience they are trying to reach with this act?" I mean, haven't this RepRap already been on its circulation -- last year? Also, if they mean to make some kind of point or an argument, they could have linked to so many other sites instead of that one.

RepRap itself seems to be quite active as an project (twittering and all) and its user forums are also relatively active, but still..

This has to be a phase one in the sequence of (some)things to come. Maybe the redesign of the Sourceforge has something to do with this, too: http://sourceforge.net ? Or maybe they are just "testing the waters".

Now, who would replicate my years of working for purposes of prettifying my CV, so I could be more eligible for certain jobs?
